RED EYE CATEGORY -EARLY MAINCROP
The variety is particularly suitable for pre-packing. It exhibits no disintegration after cooking and there are no off flavours. Tubers are round oval in shape, white skin with red eye and white flesh. This is a high yielding variety with uniform tuber shape and size. Skin texture is smooth and bright, flesh colour is white. Tuber depth is 19 cms; tuber spread is medium. There is no stolon attachment at maturity. Dry matter content is 20%

Potato Cultivar: Red Eye (Irish)
Red Eye is a very high yielding medium to long growing cultivar (110 to 130 days after emergence) Plants are upright with white flowers and dark green leaves. Has a medium dormancy period of three to four months.
Red eye is moderately resistant to late and early blight, susceptible to common scab. Resistance to leaf roll and YN Virus not yet established.
Tubers are round, white skinned and white fleshed with shallow characteristic red eyes (which become less recognisable with age) Red Eye produces mostly medium sized tubers - with 30 to 40 tubers per stool if seed is well sprouted prior to planting. It is recommended that seed is planted early so that less tubers are initiated per stool, or tubers will not bulk up adequately.
Red Eye is a cultivar with excellent marketing qualities - excellent colour and taste with a floury texture which tends to disintegrate after extended cooking, making it an ideal potato for curry dishes. Red eye does not easily discolour after cooking, making it suitable for French fries.
